Over the past 3 years we have sold over 1000 vehicles on ebay and decided that we would take a new approach to the advertising. Let's face it, when you buy a car on ebay the main thing you are lacking is the ability to test drive. Our new approach to the marketplace will be to give you a "virtual test drive" so to speak. Rather than a fancy description we are going to keep it simple. We are going to pair a description of our test drive and mechanic evaluation with a list of the pro's and con's of this particular car. These will be based on years of buying vehicles and knowing what to look for when purchasing. Please remember above all that it is IMPOSSIBLE for a used car to be perfect so any seller that doesn't list flaws is just not being thorough, we are taking the guess work out of online buying. Upon getting the car in we did a full service and found nothing else that needed attention. Then I drove it about 700 miles (it was my demo for a week) and noticed no problems with brake fade, no odd noises, and no blown speakers and no odd shakes or lights on the dash. The car is super tight and reminded me fondly of my old M5 that I regrettably parted with a 2 years ago. It is smooth and drives beautifully. All accessories worked well and the car on the whole seemed to run out exceptionally well. You could definitely tell it was well cared for. When I returned and checked it out in the shop I found no issues. The brakes have tons of life left and the performance tires still have plenty of tread left as well. The Good: stunning condition! - no interior malfunctions (ie seats, windows etc) - no major blemishes on exterior - needs nothing - rust free- no fade to the headlights - just serviced and needs nothing mechanically - extremely clean car - rare sport package - car looks great The Bad: the only two things I noticed were that the button is missing for one of the cupholders on the dash and sometimes the car says a tire is low when it actually is not. This is common on the early tire pressure monitor systems. Also you may notice the tow hook cover on the front bumper doesn't match, it will be painted prior to sale and match perfectly. There are also a few little marks on the rear bumper which can be seen in pics. Obviously nobody walks around a car and says "that fender looks excellent" and if they do, what does that mean? Below I have have put the terms used in the condition report in a more user friendly context. Imagine walking around this car with a buddy and sharing opinions, if I were that buddy then this is what I would say. -Excellent: "wow, I just can't believe how clean this car is for its age" -Good: "for being ____ years old this is in really nice shape and was obviously cared for" -Average: "well its not new but for a ___ year old car this is no more wear than I'd expect" -Poor: "I think this part will definitely need some attention to get it to where I'd like it to be" Mechanical: When you go to a lot and drive a car for the first time you immediately notice things about it. "Does the engine idle smoothly", "does the transmission shift right", "do the brakes feel good", "is the exhaust quiet", "does the car feel tight or does it wander and rattle"? These are the questions that go through my mind as I drive each car. Again, please imagine that I am the guy you are riding with during your test drive and when looking at the condition report, these are the things I would say. -Excellent: "this is amazing how great this is, obviously the part has either been recently replaced or well cared for throughout the life of the car" -Good: "this area of the car feels good and definitely won't need any attention in the near future" -Average: "for the age, I would expect this type of wear and most likely you will need to give it some minor attention shortly after purchase" -Poor: "this is something that will need work before the car is able to be driven daily" The only items that don't really follow this guide are brakes and tires. If we rate them excellent it means we just changed them. Good means they have more than 50% life left and anything less than that and we just replace them prior to sale or clearly note it in the auction. |
